Our Team - The Staff of Country Pleasures
Mike Gifford
Mike has resided in Southern Alberta for most of his life and has extensive experience fishing the Bow, the Crowsnest and the waters of Southeastern British Columbia. In the mid-1980's he guided anglers on the Bow River.
Mike has extensive fishing experience both in freshwater for trout, bass, and pike, and in saltwater for such diverse species as tarpon, bonefish and trevally. Mike resides in High River with his wife, Maureen, and his daughter, Caitlin, both of whom are enthusiastic and experienced fly fishers. If you have not had the opportunity to meet Mike, drop by the shop and do so.
Jeff Petersen
Jeff has worked for Country Pleasures for 9 years as of this summer. Jeff completed his Masters in English in 2005 and is currently finishing his Teachers
Certification. He has guided in the Elk Valley of British Columbia but has focused his guiding skills solely on the Bow River for several years now.
Jeff spends a huge number of days on the river every year and you will not find a more knowledgable or friendly person in the industry. From freshwater to salt, Jeff will be able to assist in all of your angling needs.
Caitlin Gifford
Caitlin grew up fly fishing and started working in Country Pleasures at the age of 14. Her experience extends from Trout fishing all over Southern Alberta and British Columbia to stalking Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit in the Carribean. Currently starting her first year of University, Caitlin works full time in the shop during the summer and part time during the winter while working on her degree in Environmental Science. With her experience we are sure that you will find Caitlin informative and helpful. And her friendly manner and sense of humor will keep you smiling.
Jennifer Buck
Jen joined us in the fall of 2006 and is a welcome addition to our staff. She works full time in the shop during the fall, winter, and spring. She then splits her time between guiding and working in the shop during the summer.
Jen's the most enthusiastic fly fisher we have ever seen and, although very knowledgable, she is always eager to learn more about our sport. We are sure you will appreciate the cheerful, helpful way that Jen takes care of our customers.
Mark Deitz
Mark joined our staff in the spring of 2006. Mark moved to Calgary in 1986 and has spent a lot of time fishing the creeks and rivers in Alberta and B.C.
With over 30 years fly fishing experience Mark is very knowledgable and enjoys helping anglers, new and experienced, enjoy the sport as much as he does.
Over the years Mark has come to especially enjoy the Cutthroat streams of Alberta so if you need advice or questions answered when heading that way make sure you check with him.
Lorne Burlington
Growing up in Southern Alberta, Lorne has learned all he knows about fly-fishing from the extensive blue ribbon water found in this area. He loves smashing banks with big hoppers or streamers bringing up the biggest of trout. He has been fishing since he was a kid and has decided to make it a lifestyle in the past few years.
Lorne is also pursuing a degree in Eco-Tourism and Outdoor Leadership at Mount Royal College.
Brent Piche
Brent grew up in Southern Alberta and has fly fished for 12 years now. He spends a significant amount of time on Alberta waters, fishing year round. He enjoys hunting Bull Trout in Southwest Alberta, and fishes the Bow through both the summer and winter months. He has been spending more time on the Bow of late with the acquisition of a drift boat this summer. He is an accomplished fly tier, producing some exceptional and innovative patterns. Brent has taken a year off from his Chemistry Degree at the University of Calgary to work for us here at the shop.
